Not Casting the First Stone

A song on Sirius's Christian channel today made me think of a former student.  That student is now homosexual, but like many homosexuals, she will tell you that she's a Christian.  It made me think of how many people I know today who call themselves Christians, but do things that do not line up with the Word of God.  There are Christians who would quickly point out Leviticus 18:22 ("You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination" ESV) to condemn this student and any other homosexual who calls him or herself a Christian.  Many of those same Christians seem to forget Revelation 21:8, which says, "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death" (ESV).  Anyway, all that made me think that there are a great number of things in the Word of God that we forget.  Some we have not yet read; some we conveniently ignore; some we purposely forget.  If we truly believe that sin is sin, then homosexuality is no worse than fornication or adultery, yet there are people who judge homosexuals and tell them they're going to hell (because that really shows the love of Jesus, you know), and those very same people are fornicating and committing adultery.  So. . . here's the big lesson that came out of all this thinking:  We should stop looking at other people's Christian walk (or lack thereof) and spend that time studying our Bible so that we know what God requires!

Now, please don't think that I am condoning homosexuality or cowardliness or faithlessness or murder or lying or any form of sexual impurity! I am not.  I think it's all sin; however, I realize that many people do not know that and sin in ignorance.  It's not my job to go and point out every error a Christian or non-Christian makes--that's what your conscience does.  My job, as a Christian, is to love people and point them to God.  I can do that better if my nose is not in other people's business because it's in the Word of God.  I have enough of my own sins to take care of.

Not Casting the First Stone

P.S.  If you're not offended by reading this, I'm sure I can add sentence or two to take care of that later. ;)  Seems like I've probably included enough in here to tick off most anybody!  I feel, however, that if I permit you to have your opinions without bashing them, you should permit me mine.

Next up:  My thoughts on the Crusades and "convert or die" evangelism.
